Question 1

How do I send mail to an inmate through InmateLink?

Accepted Answer

Sending mail to inmates through InmateLink is simple and secure. Use our Mail Services platform to compose and send letters directly from your computer or mobile device. Your messages are printed and delivered to the facility within 1-2 business days. This eliminates the need for physical stamps, envelopes, or trips to the post office.

Question 2

What types of mail can I send through the mail service?

Accepted Answer

You can send personal letters, greeting cards, photos, and approved documents through our mail service. All content must comply with facility regulations and cannot include prohibited items like cash, checks, or inappropriate content. Our system automatically screens content to ensure compliance with facility rules.

Question 3

Do I need to know the inmate's facility address to send mail?

Accepted Answer

No, you don't need to know the exact facility address. Simply enter the inmate's name and ID number, and our system will automatically route your mail to the correct facility. This makes sending mail much easier, especially if the inmate has been transferred between facilities.

Question 4

How much does it cost to send mail to an inmate?

Accepted Answer

Mail services start at just $0.50 per page for standard letters. Photo printing and delivery costs $0.75 per photo. Greeting cards are $1.25 each. These prices include printing, processing, and delivery to the facility. There are no hidden fees or monthly subscriptions required.

Question 5

What items are prohibited in inmate mail?

Accepted Answer

Prohibited items include cash, checks, money orders, stamps, stickers, perfume, lipstick marks, and any items that could be used as weapons or contraband. Content cannot include gang references, escape plans, or inappropriate sexual material. Our system automatically flags potentially prohibited content for review.

Question 6

Can I send photos to inmates? What are the photo restrictions?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can send photos through our service. Photos must be appropriate and cannot contain nudity, gang signs, or other prohibited content. We recommend family photos, landscapes, or other positive images. Photos are printed on standard photo paper and delivered with your mail.

Question 7

Are there length limits for letters I send to inmates?

Accepted Answer

Most facilities allow letters up to 10 pages in length. Our system will notify you if your letter exceeds the facility's page limit. You can break longer messages into multiple letters if needed. Each page is clearly numbered and delivered together as one correspondence.

Question 8

Can I send legal documents or court papers through the mail service?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can send legal documents, but we recommend using certified mail for important legal papers. Our standard mail service is suitable for general legal correspondence, but time-sensitive legal documents should be sent through official legal channels or certified mail services.

Question 9

How long does it take for my mail to reach the inmate?

Accepted Answer

Mail sent through InmateLink typically reaches inmates within 1-2 business days after sending. Processing time may vary depending on the facility's mail processing schedule and security procedures. You'll receive confirmation when your mail has been delivered to the facility.

Question 10

Will I know when the inmate receives my mail?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you'll receive delivery confirmation when your mail reaches the facility. However, the exact time when the inmate personally receives and reads the mail depends on the facility's distribution schedule and any security screening processes they may have.

Question 11

What happens if the inmate is transferred to another facility?

Accepted Answer

If an inmate is transferred, mail may be forwarded to their new location or returned to sender, depending on facility policies. We recommend using our Inmate Search tool to verify current location before sending mail, or set up transfer alerts to stay informed of location changes.

Question 12

Can I send stationery supplies like paper, pens, or envelopes to inmates?

Accepted Answer

Physical stationery supplies must be sent through approved vendors or purchased from the facility commissary. Our digital mail service eliminates the need for inmates to have their own supplies - we handle all printing and delivery. Check with the specific facility for their policies on receiving physical supplies.

Question 13

How can inmates respond to my letters?

Accepted Answer

Inmates can respond using traditional mail (if they have access to supplies) or through facility communication systems. Some facilities offer digital response options. We also provide Communication Services that allow for two-way messaging, making it easier for inmates to stay in touch.

Question 14

Can I send holiday cards or birthday cards to inmates?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can send holiday cards, birthday cards, and other greeting cards through our service. We offer a selection of pre-designed cards, or you can create custom cards with personal messages and photos. All cards are reviewed for compliance with facility regulations before delivery.

Question 15

Are there special considerations for sending mail during holidays?

Accepted Answer

During holidays, mail processing may take slightly longer due to increased volume and facility schedules. We recommend sending holiday mail a few days earlier than usual. Some facilities may have special restrictions during certain holidays, which our system will notify you about.

Question 16

What if my mail is rejected by the facility?

Accepted Answer

If mail is rejected, you'll receive notification explaining the reason for rejection. Common reasons include prohibited content, incorrect inmate information, or facility-specific restrictions. You can edit and resend the mail after addressing the issues, often at no additional charge.

Question 17

Can I get a refund if my mail isn't delivered?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if mail cannot be delivered due to system errors or inmate transfer/release, you'll receive a full refund. If mail is rejected due to content violations, you can typically edit and resend at no additional charge. Our customer service team handles all refund requests promptly.

Question 18

Is my mail content private and secure?

Accepted Answer

Your mail content is transmitted securely and stored with encryption. However, all inmate mail is subject to facility screening and monitoring as per correctional facility policies. While we protect your data during transmission, facilities may review mail content for security purposes.

Question 19

Will the facility know my personal information when I send mail?

Accepted Answer

The facility will see your name and return address as required by mail regulations. Your payment information and other personal details remain private and are not shared with facilities. Only the necessary sender information is included with your mail delivery.
