Question 1

What is InmateLink's Family Tree service and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

InmateLink's Family Tree service helps incarcerated individuals and their families build, maintain, and strengthen family connections through genealogy research and family history documentation. Our platform allows you to create comprehensive family trees, share family stories, and help your loved one stay connected to their heritage and family legacy while incarcerated.

Question 2

How do I create a family tree for my incarcerated loved one?

Accepted Answer

Creating a family tree is simple with InmateLink. Visit our Family Tree platform, create an account, and start by adding basic information about your incarcerated family member. You can then add parents, siblings, children, and extended family members. Include photos, stories, and important family milestones to create a meaningful family history that can be shared with your loved one.

Question 3

Can my incarcerated family member contribute to the family tree?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Through our secure communication platform, your incarcerated loved one can contribute family stories, memories, and information about relatives they remember. They can also request specific family history research and provide details about family members you might not know about. This collaborative approach helps create a more complete family picture.

Question 4

What information do I need to start building a family tree?

Accepted Answer

To begin, you'll need basic information such as full names, birth dates, and relationships of family members. Additional helpful details include birth locations, marriage dates, death dates (if applicable), and any family stories or traditions. Don't worry if you don't have all the information - our genealogy research services can help fill in the gaps.

Question 5

How can the family tree help my loved one feel more connected to family?

Accepted Answer

A family tree provides your incarcerated loved one with a visual representation of their family legacy and connections. It helps them understand their place in the family history, learn about relatives they may not have known, and feel connected to something larger than their current situation. Many inmates find great comfort and motivation in learning about their family heritage.

Question 6

Can I share family photos and stories through the family tree?

Accepted Answer

Our Family Tree platform allows you to upload family photos, document family stories, record family traditions, and preserve important family memories. These can be shared with your incarcerated loved one through our secure communication system, helping them stay connected to family history and feel part of ongoing family life.

Question 7

How do I involve other family members in building the family tree?

Accepted Answer

InmateLink's Family Tree platform supports multiple family members contributing to the same tree. You can invite relatives to add their own information, photos, and stories. This collaborative approach creates a richer family history and helps bring the entire family together in supporting your incarcerated loved one.

Question 8

Do you provide professional genealogy research services?

Accepted Answer

Yes, InmateLink offers professional genealogy research services to help uncover your family history. Our experienced genealogists can research birth records, marriage certificates, immigration documents, and other historical records to build a comprehensive family tree. This is especially valuable for families who have limited information about their ancestry.

Question 9

What types of records can you help me find for my family tree?

Accepted Answer

Our genealogy research services can help locate birth certificates, death certificates, marriage records, immigration documents, military service records, census records, obituaries, and historical newspaper articles. We also help find living relatives and can assist with DNA genealogy connections when appropriate.

Question 10

How far back can you trace my family history?

Accepted Answer

The depth of family history research depends on available records and documentation. In many cases, we can trace family lines back 3-5 generations or more. Some families with well-documented histories can be traced back even further. Our genealogists will work with you to go as far back as the available records allow.

Question 11

Is my family information secure and private?

Accepted Answer

Yes, InmateLink takes family privacy very seriously. All family tree information is stored securely with encryption, and access is strictly controlled. You decide who can view your family tree and what information to share. Your family's personal information is never shared with unauthorized parties or used for any purpose other than your family tree services.

Question 12

Can I control who sees different parts of my family tree?

Accepted Answer

Our Family Tree platform includes privacy controls that allow you to set different access levels for different family members and information. You can choose to keep certain information private, share specific branches with certain relatives, or make portions of the tree visible to your incarcerated loved one while keeping other details confidential.

Question 13

How can I share the family tree with my incarcerated loved one?

Accepted Answer

You can share your family tree through several methods: printed family tree charts that can be mailed, digital versions shared through our secure communication platform, or detailed family history reports. Many facilities allow family trees to be sent as educational materials, helping your loved one learn about their heritage.

Question 14

Can I create printed versions of the family tree to send by mail?

Accepted Answer

Yes! InmateLink can generate beautiful printed family tree charts, family history books, and genealogy reports that can be mailed to your incarcerated loved one. These physical documents are often treasured keepsakes that inmates can keep in their cells and share with other inmates, helping them feel proud of their family heritage.

Question 15

Can you help find relatives my loved one has lost touch with?

Accepted Answer

Yes, our genealogy research services include locating living relatives. This can be especially meaningful for incarcerated individuals who may have lost contact with family members over the years. We can help reconnect families and potentially expand your loved one's support network during their incarceration and after release.

Question 16

Do you offer DNA genealogy services for family tree building?

Accepted Answer

While direct DNA testing isn't available for incarcerated individuals, we can help family members use DNA genealogy services to build more complete family trees. Family members can take DNA tests and we'll help interpret the results to expand your family tree and potentially discover new relatives and family connections.

Question 17

What does the Family Tree service cost?

Accepted Answer

InmateLink offers various Family Tree service levels to fit different budgets. Basic family tree creation is affordable, while comprehensive genealogy research services are priced based on the scope of research needed.
